Review

Be sure you really like puzzles or are ready to use a walk through before deciding to play. Some of the puzzles have very difficult solutions and some are a matter of trial and error instead of finding the answers and plugging them in. Some also depend on colors which are different on every computer screen. You also can't see the "photos" you take during the game while entering the solutions. That makes the photos pretty useless.

In addition, some of the puzzles are timed and they are physically very difficult to execute. In fact, I was unable to complete the main Spire puzzle on my 12 inch 2005 iBook (laptop). It was too hard to grab the controls and move the sliders to the right position with everything that small. Maybe it is easier on larger screens or with a mouse. But other writers have mentioned their frustrations.

Although I found the live actions scenes and journals tedious, the scenery and environment were great and I enjoyed drawing the maps. So I finished Spire as best I could and just skipped ahead to Serenia, the last level. Fortunately, the walkthrough by Graham at Gameboomers.com has a saved game for after the wierd Serenia puzzle. The saved game is needed because the results from Spire are different for each player and are needed to complete the game. The saved game is apparently universal since it worked on my Mac too.

The maps are not to scale. The layouts are also approximate as opposed to exact. They are more like rough layout schematics as opposed to a photo replicas. But I tried to get all the "move steps" and critical puzzle parts recorded.
