A list of items to find, things to do, & places to go in game sequence.
Written by John T Burt, copyright 1999
Start Lagoon: Be sure to get a key
underwater and two pick ups on dry land.
Secret 1: The first secret and another pick
up can to be found before leaving the lagoon.
Hut or Cave route: There are two ways to
leave the beach, use the hut.
Tunnel SAVE GEM: Get the save gem and
watch out for the pop out spikes.
Dark Pool entrance: There are 4 hard to see
pick ups in the pool.
Dark Pool level 2: Check the ceilings when
you can't proceed.
Dark Pool above entrance: A short detour
will get you one pick up at this point.
Dark Pool rock bridge: It's a jump, slide,
jump here.
Dark Pool far end: See the ladder?
Dark Pool far end upper SAVE GEM: When
trying to shimmy left, if Lara puts her feet on the ladder, she will not enter
the crevice. Let go for a second so she is only hanging from her fingers.
There's a pick up by the gem.
Dark Pool exit: When you reach the wood
bridge, you're done with the pool.
Secret 2: Get the secret and a pick up
before crossing the bridge.
Bridge & Temple SAVE GEM: Kill the
lights then get the pick up. Get the save gem and jump into the river. Don't
go into the opening in the floor.
Waterfall Ledge SAVE GEM: Find the serpent
stone key before leaving the falls area. Then get the save gem on your way to
the valley above.
Valley : You can get one pick up if you
take a temporary detour into the valley under the bridge and then return to the
wooded end of the valley.
Trees, left side: There is one pick up on
this side of the tree tops.
Trees, right side: You have to get the
second serpent stone key here.
Secret 3: The secret and another pick up
are accessible in the tree tops.
Waterfall Ledge: You need to get back on
the ledge in the middle of the waterfall. Then use ladder to get on the other
side of the river.
Other Side of River: A pick up and the
third serpent stone key are here. Use the stones to open the gates to the
village.
Village 1 upper level: Get the pick up on
the upper level. Village 1 has four huts.
Village 1 lower level SAVE GEM: Two huts
have pick ups (rocket) and one hut has quicksand - stay out. There is also save gem.
Tree House/Quicksand: You have to find and
use a winch here. It lowers a grate over the pit blocking the way Village 2.
Village 2 lower area: There is a pick up
near the pit to village 2. One hut has a pick up.
Secret 4: There is a secret with two pick
ups in village 2.
Village 2 upper area: Find the hut with the
winch which will let you into the tree house so you can get into the temple.
Village 2 roof tops: There is a pick up in
the rocky area. Check the ceiling. You have to find another hut with a button
before going back in the temple.
Temple Flames: Use running jumps to pass
the flames and beware of deadly buttons. Use the winch to open the underwater
grate in Village 1.
Exit: The underwater swim is short. Jump
and catch the edge of the tree house to end the level.
Dinosaurs: Lots of raptors and one T-Rex to
kill in this level. The guards will help if you let them live, I didn't. Some
guards drop pick ups.
Start Swamp: Check out the map the dying
man gave Lara for the safe path.
Secret 1: Get the secret and two pick ups
before leaving the swamp.
Slide and Fog Room: Before sliding
to the lower level, there is a pick up you can get.
Crash Site orientation/strategy: You are in
a corner off the starboard bow (pilot's right) of the plane in the crash site
room. Everything takes place in side areas off the crash site. You do them in
any order. Do not go inside the plane till you have the two keys.
T-Rex Lair - Upper: The entrance is off the
Port bow of the plane (front left from the pilots point of view). There's one
pick up to get before entering the lair and another in the trees.
Secret 2: The secret and a pick up are also
accessible here.
T-Rex Lair - Strategy: When looking down
at the lower level, make note of the opening below on the left. It leads to
switch 1 which will allow you to reach switch 2.
T-Rex Lair - Mama: Mama T-Rex will be
angry when you steal the key from her nest.
T-Rex Lair - Goodies: There are 6 pick ups
you can before getting back to the upper area on your way back to the crash
site.
Compsognathus Room: The entrance is on the
port side of the plane near the tree. There is one pick up in the tunnel. There
are two pick ups and the two levers inside.
Raptor temple: The entrance is to the
right of the falls. Stay off the fake wooden bridge inside.
Raptor temple- tree: Have your weapon of
choice ready when you get to the tree tops.
Raptor temple- rocks SAVE GEM: The next
ledge is hard to see. It is reached using a jump from the tree trunk end
of the branch. From there you can reach the save gem ledge and the next tree
branch.
Secret 3: Get the secret and a pick up
before leaving the branch. You will die if you fall and don't get out of the
water.
Raptor temple- pool: There's a pick up near
the hanging dead raptor. Hint, you have to feed the piranhas before going in
the water to pull the underwater lever.
Raptor temple- switch room: The three
switches let in raptors and open the ceiling.
Raptor temple - attic SAVE GEM: Get the
save gem and the vital key before returning to the crash site.
Short Cut: If you want one more Save Gem
you can do the Starboard side as described below. Otherwise you can get up on
the plane on the port side, just in front of the door.
If you want the pick up the Starboard side gives,
it is accessible from the rear of the plane. Skip ahead to the instruction
labeled Airplane.
Starboard- Wing (pilot's right) : Starboard
side, aft. You'll need flares to find the first block on your route to the tree
and plane.
Starboard- Tree: Look for the ceiling
staples, then tree trunk staples and finally more ceiling staples.
Starboard- Rocks: The trick is to climb
down and shimmy at the bottom.
Starboard- entry hall: Don't follow the
next ceiling ladder too far, drop to the first ledge you reach. This position
is a reasonable place to save.
Starboard- Switch room- Short cut: You can
simply get the save gem and return to the crash site if you want. Go back to
the instruction labeled Short Cut above.
Starboard- Switch room- Switch 1: Switch 1
is on the ledge below the entrance opening.
Starboard- Switch room- Switch 2 SAVE GEM:
Switch 2 is across the ladder and down. You have to drop, slide, hang, pull up
and back flip to reach the save gem post. Don't forget to use switch 1 again
before getting on the ceiling ladder once more.
Starboard- Switch room- Switch 3: Switch 3
is damn hard to get to. I'm just going to describe it. Follow the ceiling to a
ladder. The turns are LLRRRR. Climb down till Lara's feet are right at the
bottom without going off. The position is critical and I actually saved on the
ladder so I could get next two jumps correct. Back flip to the ledge to use
switch 3. Jump back to the ladder and climb into the new opening. Do a running
jump angled to land on the sloped ledge below switch 2. Shimmy right a bit till
you are below switch 2. Back flip to the post and return to the entrance
opening.
Starboard- Switch room- End: Follow the
ceiling route to it's end. The turns are LLRRRL. Get the pick up, and use the
tunnel to reach the top of the plane.
Airplane: Drop through the hatch. Use the
two keys in the locks before dropping to the cargo hold. I suggest saving right
before using the switch here. The D pad moves the cannon up, down, left and
right. I counted 30 raptors plus or minus 2. Do it again just for fun.
Exit SAVE GEM: Be sure to blast two walls
before leaving the cannon. You can get a pick up and a save gem before ending
the level.
Start: You can get three pick ups in the
temple the bats came out of. Ignore the trap door in the floor.
River Crossing: The jump to the block in
the middle of the river is a standing jump from the back side. The next jump is
a run jump and catch. Route decision time.
Kayak Short Cut SAVE GEM: You might need to
press the button by the save gem to the left before doing this. I'm not sure.
If you shimmy right you can reach a button that will open the trap door in the
temple. This will give you access to a kayak but it bypasses much of the level.
If you take it you will reenter the instructions at First Falls below.
Left Route SAVE GEM: Shimmy left. Don't
forget the save gem and button before crossing the river. Look up.
Across the River: You have to go right
twice to reach he junction room.
Junction room: Watch out for the spikes in
the open passage on your way to the Y.
Right Passage SAVE GEM: At the Y you can
take a temporary detour to get a save gem.
Left Passage: Use this path to reach the
lever to open the junction room gate.
Falls: Go through the falls. LOOK AROUND for future reference.
Secret 1: You should have heard the secret
music when you went behind the falls.
Falls Room: You can get a pick up before
you traverse the ceiling. Be sure to get off the ceiling as soon as you reach
the first flat ledge.
Fire Room SAVE GEM: The next jump is
tricky and fatal when you miss it. Slide and jump to reach the post. Run jump
through the save gem.
Passage: There's a pick up on the left.
Watch out for the faces.
Piranha Pool SAVE GEM: Look up. After
getting the gem, get back on the ceiling to reach the exit. Don't stop or Lara
might get stuck.
High Falls ledge: Note the location of the
save gem by the water I call the main pool.
Secret 2: This secret is accessible from
the ledge above the ladder on the other side. You can also detour to the nearby
hut for two pick ups (rocket). Getting back up is a problem. I will describe it.
The falls are on the side of the wood grate away
from the hut. To the left of the falls and a bit above the river water is a
single block that sticks out. The near corner of that block is the jump target.
The wood grate has 7 boards. Position Lara so she is straddling the middle
board and is right at the edge of the grate. Angle her so that she is facing
the block BUT so that when you Look up her head clears the block above. Hop
back once. Do a running jump without using the action key and turn in the air
slightly to land on the corner of the block.
Kayak Room: Follow the tunnel to the Kayak
room. You have to find an underwater lever to open the gate. I suggest you
practice before leaving and you might save too.
Kayak Strategy: Three Kayak routes lead to
the drain plug room. No particular route is correct. There is the dangerous
Short Route, the save gem Long Route, and the difficult but safe Medium
Route.
Back paddling is more powerful than forward
paddling. You can only get out of the kayak in still water. Everything is survivable but make sure your health is at maximum. The
hazards include waterfalls, spikes and swinging blades.
Main Pool SAVE GEM: At the bottom of the
exit try to go upstream to the main pool for the save gem.
First Falls: There is a red trip wire on
the left side and a rock in the middle.
Blades Pool: Paddle through the green trip
wire to shut them off the swinging blades.
Short Route: Go left at the bottom for the
Short Route to the drain plug pool.
Other Routes: Go right at the bottom for
the Long and Medium Routes.
Obstacle Course, strategy: At the bottom,
the left exit is the Long Route and the right exit is the Medium Route. Yes, it
is possible to get down the obstacle course without going through any red trip
wires.
Obstacle Course, left side: Takes you
straight to the Long Route exit with health loss.
Obstacle Course, right side: Take this
route to actually run the course and try to avoid the trip wires. At the bottom
you can take the Long Route exit or the Medium Route exit if you paddle hard.
Long Route SAVE GEM: Make sure your health
is at maximum and try to go over the falls in the middle to get the save gem.
Eventually you will have to go up some white water to reach the Drain Plug
Pool.
Medium Route: Stay to the left to avoid the
spikes and reach the drain plug pool
Drain Plug Pool: Note the four inflows and
outflows, 1 waterfall in, 1 calm tunnel, 1 white water outflow and 1 green
water inflow.
Secret 3 SAVE GEM: One path leads to the
secret and a difficult to get save gem.
Green White Water: You have to leave the
kayak when you get to the pool at the end of this. One time the gate here was
closed. I don't know why. If the gate is open, this is not a bad place to save.
Drain Plug Ceiling: Yup, more ceiling work
and lots of it. Drop at the end.
Calm Tunnel blocks: Get one pick up (rocket) on your
way upstream and two more if you take a detour near the ladder wall.
Calm Tunnel ceiling: The left end of the T
in the ceiling track leads to two pick ups. The other to the path.
Blades and spikes: Run jump to the ledge by
the swinging blade and again to catch the climbing wall on the other side. The
path ends at a tall drop shaft.
Drop Shaft tunnel: Watch out for the
boulders.
Fire Room: Beware, look up and behind
you.
Fire Tunnel: Another boulder.
Obstacle Course blocks: The path leads to a
zip line in the obstacle course.
Chain Room: Find the lever in the upper
chain room. Then follow the short path back to the kayak.
Drain Plug pool again: Make sure Lara's
health is at max before going down the drain.
Exit: You have to pull an underwater lever
to open the exit to the level.
Start: Go up the stairs. There's a pick up
before the next room.
Disk Room SAVE GEM: Tomb Raider's ultimate
rolling disk room here. The four buttons in the brown areas have to be pressed.
Hint, Lara can squat under the axle when she is at the wall and she can dive
over the axle to reach the other wall. You can collect the save gem on your way
to the exit.
Spike Ceiling: Hint, there's a moveable
block.
Giant Boulders SAVE GEM: Shades of Indiana
Jones here. Get the pick up before pulling the lever. The lever arms the
boulder traps and opens the exit. I saved at this point. Ignore the point of
view will change.
Sprint down the center turning to the right as
soon as you clear the wall. Keep sprinting to the exit collecting the save gem
on the way. Get the pick up one of the next dead guards drops.
Secret: Get the secret and 5 pick ups
before sliding to the throne room. Hint, some of the faces hide a finger hold
crevice.
Throne Room: Puna throws energy bolts- one
hit is lethal. Puna also puts up a temporary energy shield after one or two
continuous shots from you. Puna activates on the second step. I saved before
activating him.
Jump onto the step. Immediately jump back and jump
to the left. Shoot. Now do side jumps continuously, shooting when you can.
Jumping is more important than shooting. It took 11 clean hits with the desert
eagle for Puna to start vibrating and then blow up. Shots have more affect if you are closer.
Get the two pick ups and then the artifact to end
South Pacific.
