| The original bookcase system was designed for paperback novels only. In this revision it has been expanded slightly to hold VHS Videotapes and CD Jewel Boxes also. The purpose of the system is to allow the bookcases to be used as storage boxes during moves. That way the books do not have to be transferred from the bookcase to cardboard boxes and back to the bookcases every time they are moved. Mine have been moved twice and they worked very well. I have specified 1/2" plywood for the shelves and sides of bookcase boxes. My boxes were made from an assortment of materials I had on hand ranging from 1/2" plywood to 3/4" particle board. If you change materials, the important dimensions to maintain are the outside width and depth of the boxes so they will fit in the shells and the interior height and depth of the box shelves so the "books" fit. Be sure to check all measurements before you build just to make sure things fit. Also, I don't guarantee I didn't measure something wrong. |
